Katie Hakesly

Katie is a licensed independent social worker and serves as the clinical supervisor at Meta’s Haverhill site. Katie has a Master’s degree in Social Work from Salem State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Umass Lowell. She has over 16 years of experience working in various clinical roles and settings. In her early career, Katie worked with transition aged youth with intellectual, developmental, and emotional disabilities in special education and vocational settings. While attending her Master’s program, Katie completed both clinical and macro field placements in psychiatric emergency services and as an intern for the MA Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-MA). After completing her Master’s degree in 2012, she worked as an in-home therapist for children and families and a clinical coordinator contracted through the Department of Mental Health (DMH) providing clinical case management and support to adults w/ serious persistent mental illness.

Katie came to Meta following 5 + years of experience working as a clinical social worker in an inpatient psychiatric hospital serving adults in acute psychiatric crises. During her time as an inpatient social worker, Katie regularly worked w/ patients presenting with co-occurring substance use disorders, providing support as they underwent detox and coordinating referrals and aftercare in support of their recovery. Katie is well-versed in working as part of interdisciplinary treatment teams inclusive of doctors, psychiatrists, nurses, occupational therapists, and direct care staff. She has extensive experience in risk assessment and management with both clients and families and a broad knowledge of the systems of care in the state of MA. Her passion is engaging with family members to provide education and support around how to navigate the challenges associated with their loved ones’ diagnoses.
